The Community Puddle Project
At the heart of this project is a collaborative screenprinting process. It begins with a foundational 40"x30" screenprint created by Mark Oldland, capturing the sensory essence of "puddle jumping"—a metaphor for the ripples of impact we make on the world.
Through guided workshops, community members are invited to add their own voices to the work. By discussing their unique perspectives on pride and neurodiversity, participants identify symbols, patterns, and colors that represent their collective identity. These designs are then screenprinted directly over the foundational layer, creating a final piece of art that is a fusion of individual and community expression.
Mentorship & Neurodivergent Leadership
We believe that neurodivergent individuals should lead the conversation on neurodiversity. To support this, The Community Puddle Project actively attempts to employ neurodivergent assistants as ”Project Interns”. This initiative is designed as a "professional bridge"—providing assistants with:
• Creative Mentorship: Hands-on experience in professional screenprinting and digital design.
• Resume Building: Real-world experience in community arts administration and workshop facilitation.
• Personal Networking: Meaningful connections within the local arts community.
Local Support & Accessibility
This project is currently funded by The Arts Institute of Middlesex County (AIMC). This partnership allows us to bring these transformative workshops to communities across the county at no cost to participants, ensuring that the celebration of neurodivergent pride is accessible to all.
